Union Hall Elementary School was filled with color, creativity, and community spirit on Tuesday, November 25, as families gathered for the school’s annual Family Day, one of the most successful yet.

In the days leading up to the celebration, every grade participated in a school wide read-aloud of Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet, the whimsical true story behind the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons. Inspired by the book, students sketched their own parade-worthy balloon designs, which later served as blueprints for the hands-on creations they would build with their families.

On Family Day, the cafeteria transformed into a buzzing workshop as students and parents rolled up their sleeves to bring these imaginative sketches to life. Using materials provided by the school including balloons, craft sticks, construction paper, glue sticks, tape, markers, crayons, and colored pencils along with additional items brought from home, each team worked together to engineer floats that would make even Broadway’s greatest puppet masters proud.

From turkeys and Stitch to Bluey and gumball machines, the results were nothing short of Macy’s Parade magic. Laughter and excitement filled the room as students watched their ideas come alive, proving once again that creativity has no limits when families and schools join forces.

The event drew an impressive turnout, with parents, grandparents, guardians, and students all taking part in the fun. Teachers and staff praised the collaboration and the joy it brought to the school community.
